Abstract (EN)

The Horror Genre in Turkish Literature (1990-2023) The horror in Turkish literature has been identified via a sample of novels as a form. The generic features of the genre have been designated by generating such terms as the horror figure and the source of horror as the horror novels are being analyzed. The horror figure refers to the person, subject, whereas the source of horror refers to the threat being at stake. Categorized within four subtitles as uncanny, folkloric horror, psychological horror and horror of figure, the subgenres of the horror have been identified based on the horror figure and the source of horror. After the samples of the horror genre are pointed out in the Turkish novels chronologically, twenty eight horror novels published between the years of 1990-2023 have been analyzed observing the classification. The approaches of Freud and Jung as to the feeling of horror have been exploited so as to comprehend the horror genre, which intends to create a feeling of horror in the reader, in depth as much as the said novels are capable of. Novels focusing on the sense of uncanny as a type of the feeling of horror, and not embodying supernaturality in the horror figure are referenced as uncanny. The phases of creating the sense of uncanny in the said novels have been modeled, and the pattern for the plot of uncanny has been drawn. It's been observed that the samples of the horror genre advanced after the 90s in the Turkish novels. It is possible to reckon that the said samples have not observed a literary style. It's been determined that the number of novels handled with a perspective of literary style has increased after the 2000s. Key Words: Horror, novel, the horror genre in the Turkish literature.
