The effects of the drama method applied in the turkish course on the communication perceptions of 4th grade students in primary school

The aim of this study is to put forward an application suggestion in teaching communication proficiency with drama method in 4th grade Turkish lesson. The research is in the systematic scanning model, one of the qualitative research methods. Data collection process was completed between May 2020-January 2021. Data analysis is in the form of document analysis. The communication competencies in the primary school Turkish lesson were examined on the basis of sub-dimensions identified as "Remembering and retrieving", "Structure and grammar", "Comprehension", "Understanding sentence structure", "Main idea" and "Oral communication". Thesis, article, book, written, printed and visual resources about Turkish course, communication competencies and drama were scanned in the study. The findings show that the drama method positively affects the acquisition of basic language skills. It is concluded that the communication skills targeted in teaching the Turkish lesson communication competencies to be made with drama will have a more positive and permanent effect compared to other methods applied. In this context, taking the opinions of relevant field experts on the basis of the literature, lesson plans for Turkish communication competencies were prepared in line with the acquisitions in the 4th grade Turkish course curriculum approved by the Ministry of National Education for the 2020-2021 academic year. As a result of the document analysis about the use of the drama method in Turkish lessons, its use in other lessons and the use of creative drama in education, it was revealed that the drama method made a significant difference on the students compared to other methods. In the light of the findings, by discussing the effectiveness of the drama method compared to other methods, it was suggested to increase the drama method in primary schools and to conduct applied studies on drama to prospective classroom teachers.
