The effects of example elaboration strategy on concept learning success, retention and transfer on teaching adverb concept i̇n Turkish lesson

In this study, the effect of examples elaboration strategy on concept learning success, retention and transfer while teaching adverb concept in Turkish lesson. Research, pre-test post-test control group experimental designed according to research model. Accordingly, an experimental group and a control group were formed in the study. During the experimental application period, both the experimental and the control groups were taught by the researcher. This research was executed in a public school which takes place in Yüreğir, Adana, with 7th grade students in 2018-2019 autumn education terms. Totality 60 students participated in progress, half of it in experimental group, half of it in control group. We used "example elaboration strategy" in experimental group, while we were using traditional education methods. The experimental procedure was carried out in seven lessons. Data were collected by using reading comprehension test, concept learning test and transfer test prepared by researcher. The data obtained from the study were analyzed by using SPSS 22 statistical package program. To determine whether there is a significant difference between reading comprehension test, concept learning test and the academic achievements of students in Turkish independent group t test were used and ANCOVA was used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the total achievement levels the post test, retention and transfer test. When the results obtained from the research findings are summarized, it can be said that there is a meaningful difference on behalf of experimental group on concept learning total achievements level. In spite of that there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in retention and transfer test total achievement levels. As a summary of the results from the research it can be expressed that example elaboration strategy on concept learning used on experimental group is a partly effective method.
