Meaning expansion and meaning narrowing in "Türkçe Sözlük"

The subject of the thesis is scanning 92,292 words in the Turkish Dictionary and finding the ones which has narrowed and enlarged in meaning. After these words are collected, a sample sentence is added to the words those doesn't have, that will enable the meaning to be understood better by using the word in the sentence. Assuming language is a tree, the words are the needles of a pine tree. Some fall with time, some replenish themselves, and constantly fresh needle leaves flush upwards. Our work is about these self-renewing leaves. By self-renewing we mean, by various factors words are influenced by geographical, cultural, fictional relationship, time, reason and purpose, etc. adapted itself to time and have been adapted by people to themselves. During this adaptation, meanings, usage areas, prevalence, etc. of the words, which are an sings in a sense, changes. it begins to show something other than what it has shown before, a part of what it had shown before, or something bigger than what he had shown before. in our thesis we have dealt with the words that show some or a greater part of what he has already shown as a field of meaning. 92,292 words were scanned and words with meaning expansion and contraction were extracted. In some of these words, we have only detected meaning expansion, some of them have only a narrowing of meaning, and in some of them we have also found meaning expansion and contraction. Total 1310 words have been identified as undergone changes. Most of the detected words have expanded in meaning, a lesser amount of them narrowed in meaning and a much less of them both narrowed and expanded in meaning. Narrowing the meaning and expanding the words have been selected in dictionary order by the word that preceded it. The following words in order are compared to the first word and the meaning fields are included in the expansion or contraction of meaning according to the contraction or expansion of the usage areas.
