Authentic text use by those who teach Turkish as a foreign language: A scale development study

The use of authentic texts is of great importance in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Authentic texts are not specifically specified for teaching, and daily surviving general information texts are produced and listed. In particular, the use of authentic texts by the instructors working in this field makes teaching effective. When the literature is examined, it has been determined that there is no Turkish scale to determine the authentic text usage status of those who teach Turkish as a foreign language. It is seen as a need to develop a scale with proven validity and reliability to be used in this field. Because this determination will be an important reference in terms of increasing the awareness of the instructors and regulating the teaching quality. In this study, "What are the authentic text usage situations of those who teach Turkish as a foreign language?" Based on the question, it is aimed to conduct a scale development study to determine the authentic text usage status of those who teach Turkish as a foreign language. In the study carried out in this context, first of all, the relevant articles were prepared and shaped according to the expert opinion. After the validity and reliability analyzes, the final version of the scale was given. The study group of the research consists of 205 teachers. As a result of the factor analysis, the scale; It consists of a 3 dimensional structure with 17 items titled "Use of Authentic Text in the Scope of Skills and Levels", "Use of Authentic Text in the Scope of Comprehension Skills" and "Use of Authentic Text in the Scope of Expression Skills". The items explain 68,572% of the total variance. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated for the reliability of the scale. The general reliability coefficient of the developed scale was found to be .91. However, the equivalent halves method was used to determine the internal consistency. The correlation coefficient obtained from two different parts of the scale was calculated as .93. These values show that the "Authentic Text Usage Scale of Those Who Teach Turkish as a Foreign Language" is a valid and reliable measurement tool. The average of authentic text usage in this perception perception research group, where the lowest 17 and the highest 85 points can be obtained, is 4,30 out of 5. The total score received is 73. From this point of view, it is concluded that the authentic text usage widths are "very good". It is thought that the developed scale will be useful to researchers and to the teachers working in this field.
