Özet (EN)
The revolt of 1916 was one of the biggest tragedies of the history of Turkestan. This became the deadliest revolt by Muslim Turks against the authoritarian political system of Tsardom of Russia. Tsarist autocracy first divided Turkestan into regions and then split into states. This was followed by placing Russians on those lands with the aim of creating a new Russia. As a result, the people of Turkestan had to suffer the political, social, economical and governmental consequences of the oppressive ruling of Russia. Tsardom of Russia had suffered from significant losses as part of Allied powers in the Western front during the First World War. Therefore Russia passed a decree for revoking the exemption of people of Turkestan from the military service so that they could perform a rearguard action in the war. However Turks refused the call which resulted in uprisings amongst the public. The first uprising started in Hocent on the 4th July 1916. What started as a small uprising spread over a very short period of time. This is known as "Ürkün" in Krgyyzstan. Russian Empire implemented colonialism in Krgysztan. While the most fertile land was given to Russians, the local people was forced to move to rural areas. Krgyz Turks was killed by Russian soldiers along with the Russian inhabitants. The rebels from the north of the country were killed, while 120 thousand others fled to China. The revolt was ruthlessly suppressed with devastating effects on the people of Turkestan in terms of many aspects. This study discusses the struggle of the people of Turkestan against Russia in all areas. Key Words: Turkestan, Kyrgyz, TsaristRussia, Central Asia, Hocent, 1916 Rebellion, Russia, Basmacılar, Enver Pasha, Korbaşılar, Ceditçilik
