Abstract (EN)

Social, economic and political changes and developments in the fields of media and technology influence the production and consumption of music by directing the music industry. In addition to musical elements in popular music, social communication is established quickly and symbolically with extra musical narratives. Popular music can also create interaction via bringing people of different status together. Western industrial popular music has become globalized through media and music technologies and has influenced local music. A homogeneous youth culture has been formed with globalizing pop and rock music. Radio and music television also played a role in popularizing pop and rock music. The industrialization of music in Turkey and to spread in the community of Western popular music outside of Westernization, liberalization, and urbanization have had to be lived in capitalization. In this process, Turkish popular music has transformed. After the 1980s, neo-liberalization triggered consumption, populism and egocentrism in society. In Turkey, in the process of neo-liberalization of music technologies and private channels pop and rock music have been turned into widespread mainstream genres. In addition, the shallowing and superficialization that started in pop music in the 1990s has dominated the music industry over time. With the digitalization of music in the 2000s, a global paradigm shift was experienced that also affected the Turkish music industry. New lifestyles have emerged in the digital age, and popular music has been shaped accordingly. The free access to music on the internet decreased album sales and an economic crisis emerged in the music industry. Increasing and licensing of the legal use of digital music and collaboration with different industries have raised revenues again since the mid-2010s. In this period, the distribution of capital in the Turkish music industry changed and companies that adapted to the new structure grew stronger. Uniformity that spread in the global popular music in the 2000s has deepened problems in the music industry in Turkey.
