Abstract (EN)

Politics has been built with the order of patriarchal for centuries. Although women have found the right to political participation in the Constitution in the legal sense, the use of this right is controversial. Women have not reached the level of participation in politics with the characteristics of the male dominant society that has been continuing for years. The principle of equal participation, which forms the basis for a democratic state, is undermined by the lack of political participation of women. For our country; women's positions in political life, the principle of equal participation and the necessary steps should be taken to become a democratic state in order to ensure justice in representation. For this reason, the impact of our relations with the European Union on women's participation in political life is examined by looking at the issue from the international perspective. The concept of political participation should be realized equally without gender-based discrimination. In the European Union legislation and secondary sources, there are articles and practices for the participation of women in political life in order to achieve this equality. In the following years, the European Union has become the basic principle of equal participation of women and the prevention of gender discrimination. The political participation of women is very important for the European Union, which organizes a programme for women each year. Key Words: Political Participation, Women, Turkey, the European Union
