Comparison of Türkiye and the United States science curriculum

The research aims to reveal the similarities and differences by performing a comparative analysis of the aims, Content, Education Situations, Measurement, and Evaluation of science education programs in Turkey and the United States and primary and secondary level achievements. The resources and materials of the research are applied in the 2018 academic year of the Turkish science course teaching program and the USA's new generation of science standards and primary and secondary school level achievements. Document examination, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In this study, which is aimed at Turkey and USA science education programs, the documents were accessed from the official web pages of the relevant countries. The findings were compared with the general and specific purposes of the Turkish Science Teaching Program and the US Science Teaching Program. The achievements were grouped according to TIMSS and PISA subject areas and the common and different achievements were examined. The contents were examined in terms of subject areas, unit and subject topics, number of accomplishments, and hours of classes. Educational situations are compared regarding learning approaches, course environments, program development, computer-aided teaching, interdisciplinary connections, and student engagement. The measurement and evaluation approaches are discussed in line with the guidelines and explanations in the programs. Although there are name differences in the sub-learning areas of the studied teaching programs, it has been determined that some parts of their content are similar. While the concepts and achievements were given in Turkey, it was seen that the research and experiments were inadequate compared to the concepts and achievements given in the USA. It was thought that the findings obtained could lead to the Turkish Science Course Teaching Program and may be important in terms of the development of the field.
