Parliament activities of Ali Rana Tarhan, the first minister of customs and exclusives of the republic of turkey

The problems experienced by the Republican People's Party, which had a serious role in directing Turkish politics in the periods between the two World Wars and after, in making the public adopt the innovations it made at the stage of laying the foundations of the nation-state; This study, which also covers the problems faced by the country in order to reach a more democratic dimension, contains information about these important processes.By 1939, the National Chief's desire to side with the Western states caused a softening in domestic politics. For this reason, the Independent Group was established to show the outside world the efforts to move towards a more democratic process and to meet the needs and demands of the opposition in the country.Ali Rana Tarhan, who served as the first Minister of Customs and Monopoly of the Republic of Turkey, closely followed the country's problems and carried out meticulous studies during his tenure. As a result of his work that attracted İnönü's attention, Tarhan served as the vice president of Müstakil Group.In our study, after discussing in detail the development of the history of Turkish Democracy, the establishment of the Ministry of Customs and Exemptions, the definition and activities of the Independent Group, Ali Rana Tarhan's parliamentary activities and speeches are included. It is aimed to complete the lack of literature about the importance of Ali Rana Tarhan's duty and the period with the data obtained by using the Grand National Assembly of Turkey minutes, written works and memories about the period.
