Türkiye'de kadının kendine yönelik yakın partner şiddetini meşrulaştırması ve ataerkil cinsiyet rolleri arasındaki ilişki

Understanding women's attitudes toward intimate partner violence (IPV) in cultural contexts is crucial to develop interventions to reduce IPV and its effects. This thesis presents qualitative findings from research conducted in Turkey to understand the associations between women's attitudes toward patriarchal gender roles and the justification of intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW). This study uses data obtained from the 2014 National Survey on Domestic Violence against Women, which includes 7,462 women aged between 15 and 59. Binary logistic regression models are used to investigate the relationship between explanatory variables, such as women's attitudes toward gender roles and socio-economic characteristics, and the justification of wife-beating. The study findings indicate that women who adhere to traditional gender roles are 2.60 more likely to have positive attitudes toward accepting wife-beating. Younger and married respondents justify wife-beating more often. Residing in rural areas increases the risk of justification of IPVAW. Higher level of education of women is negatively associated with acceptance of IPVAW. Women who are working with health insurance are less likely to justify wife-beating. However, the most significant predictor of women's justification of partner violence appears to be women's positive attitudes toward patriarchal gender roles.
