Thesis) Gamze Elif BÜYÜKKAYIKCI GAZI UNIVERSITY EDUCATION SCIENCES INSTITUTE ART EDUCATION MAIN BRANCH MUSIC TEACHING SCIENCE BRANCH (Ankara 2004) ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the daily individual practice methods of the students of stringed instalments of the Educational Faculties, Art Education Departments, Music Education Main Branches in Turkey. This is a descriptive study for identification of the status, with respect to its objective and the qualification of the method followed and data collected. For the study, sources in Turkey and abroad have been investigated and importance and role of daily individual practice in the education of stringed instruments has been determined. In addition, using a questionnaire technique, the fruquency, place and time of the daily practice of the students, the daily duration they allocate for practicing, the positive and negative factors effecting their practice, the scope of the practices, their priorities and order in practicing, the creative works they use in practicing, the problems they encounter while practising and the means that they use to solve them were identified.IV It was concluded that a great majority of the students practice with their instruments in school within the week, afternoon hours. Being healthy and happy, being well motivated by their instructors, exercising a work that they personally like affect their daily practising positively. On the other hand, being ill or disturbed, being unhappy or stressed, being demoralized and exercising in an unsuitable medium affect their daily practicing negatively. The student cover in their daily individual stringed instruments practices "right hand-bow exercises", "left hand- finger exercises", "scale exercises", "etude and work exercises". Students, who use "mediocre" or "lesser" creative works in their daily individual stringed instruments practices, cover "practicing with different cords". As they practice their training materials, the students encounter "problems on using bow-string techniques", which the prefer solving such problems by themselves or by getting professional help from experts. It has been understood that the students are in need of raising awareness in using time more effectively and efficiently when practicing their instruments, and at this point it becomes necessary that the instructors of stringed instruments should guide the students in how to practice their instruments and how to learn this, and should motivate the students more to practice. It is maintained that such studies are concluded not only in instruments training but also in other areas.
