Abstract (EN)

This study essentially aims to interpret the news and commentaries on the Cyprus issue between 1960-80 through the perspective of critical geopolitics and critical discourse analysis. The geopolitics-based approach to international relations and the network of meanings behind concepts such as national interest and strategic position, which are frequently used in foreign policy, in three right-conservative and left-socialist intellectual magazines, which are published in different channels of the political scene, have been analysed by using the tools of critical discourse analysis, which is based on a nuanced investigation of the types of discourse and discursive agreements that constitute these concepts. In this way, it is aimed to show that these concepts such as foreign policy, strategic geographical location and geopolitical importance, which are thought to be objective fields independent of political disputes, are actually defined through highly contented concepts such as sovereignty, nation, representation, security, identity, territory and homeland, which predetermine disciplines such as international relations and political geography, and that they are the product of a political-discursive construction activity.
