Abstract (EN)

Energy industry is one of the most important elements in the development of countries. In the Turkish economy and economies similar to the Turkish economy, energy industry affects the economic growth, trade deficit and population growth. The details of these affects are shown in the relevant references. In the second part of this thesis, definition of energy is provided and energy's historical affect on the process is explained and energy resources in the world and in Turkey and the affects of these energy resources on the economy are explained. In the third part of this thesis, macroeconomic problems, balance of payment, energy surplus and deficit of various countries are analyzed. In the fourth part, the energy consumption in Turkey and its relationship with the economic growth is analyzed by using an econometric model. Energy consumption, population and trade deficit are analyzed in a data sample from a period of 1970 until 2014. The relationship between energy consumption, population and trade deficit are analyzed by using "Granger causality analysis", "Unit Roots Test" and "Error Correction Models". As a result of the "Granger Causaility Analysis", it is determined that there is a quadratic relationship between energy consumption and trade deficit and a linear relationship between population and trade deficit and between population and energy consumption.
