Abstract (EN)
Social Interactions of Immigrants In Daily Life In Turkey: The Case of Somalıa and Djiboutui While migration movements are rapidly increasing worldwide, Turkey has also been among the countries affected by this circulation. In recent years, immigrants from different countries have come to Turkey. In this study, the interactions, daily practices, domestic and extra-domestic relations, interactions and the feelings that arise as a result of these interactions of Somali and Djiboutian immigrants from two Sub-Saharan countries will be examined. In this context, the study will discuss domestic routines, retrospective social identities, integration and problems in social life and most importantly the feelings that arise from daily life practices. The main problem of the study is to understand the feelings that arise as a result of intra-group and inter-group interactions by focusing on the interactions and intercultural communication stages of Somali and Djiboutian immigrants in Turkey. In this context, a qualitative approach has been adopted in accordance with this study. Participant observation method, which aims to reach the immigrants' immigration experience, domestic routines and social communication patterns and allows us to understand what happens in the group and how they behave in society, has been used. The active participant observation technique was preferred in the study to experience immigrant experiences together, to determine their traditions and routines. The main purpose of this study is to obtain the necessary country of origin information and to better understand the groups we live together with in our society as a result of Somali and Djiboutian immigrants coming to Turkey with various purposes and stories. Ankara, the region where Djiboutians and Somalis are concentrated in Turkey, was chosen as the research area. Field studies were conducted in Ankara/Kızılay and Keçiören/Yükseltepe regions between May 10, 2024 and July 10, 2024. In this study, a total of 15 immigrants, 7 of whom were Djiboutians and 8 were Somalis, were interviewed. The data obtained in the study were systematically written daily and then compared and examined. The data were coded and the codes obtained were divided into themes and subthemes. Three main themes were reached as a result of the study. These are: Daily Life Sociology, Emotions and Lifestyles. In general, the study shows that Somali and Djiboutian immigrants cannot fully express themselves in society, are afraid of their differences before starting to interact, experience difficulties due to the dominance of their own social structures, and the essence of their cultural identities is preserved due to this situation.
