The change of open and semi-open spaces in the house production in Turkey

The production of housing in Turkey has gone through many stages of change in the historical process. There has also been a transformation in open and semi-open space architecture within the scope of housing production. Open and semi-open spaces, which have a major role in traditional Turkish housing architecture, have begun to diminish, close up or even started not to be included in plans in apartment projects, especially in larger cities. In gated communities, open and semi-open spaces have turned into mere social usage areas used only by the members of these communities. In this study: historical periods are addressed over family structures, alternated by the influence of various factors and transformations throughout the housing production styles; additionally, significant samples of different housing production periods are exemplified. The transformation of open and semi-open spaces is examined through traditional housing, apartment and gated communities. The change of open and semi-open spaces is examined through traditional housing, apartment projects and gated communities and at the same time the change of these spaces from individual usage to social usage areas towards have been tracked.
