Gender and social capital based view to social cohesion of Syrian women continuing post graduate education in Turkey

This thesis deals with international migration mobility from the perspective of Turkey's experiences of Syrian people and tries to understand how migration affects the belonging, the social relations and their point of view toward life by investigating 10 young women each of whom has different social capital. In addition to some obligations which are encumbered on woman because of their being part of patriarchal structure in which they are, being migrant compels women to struggle in very different areas simultaneously. The proposal of this study is understanding the social cohesion of these women who have different perspective for the future and continue their post graduate education, the challenges they face and how they combat against them, expectations for the future by based on gender and their changing perceptions regarding the situation in which they are. For this purpose, it was made interviews with the participating women who were identified with snowball sampling method by using semi structured in depth interview techniques between May and July in 2019 and tried to understand participant's changing point of view toward the facts. The actions of migration which has a meaning beyond the ordinary change of location, gains importance in order to understand how migrant diversifies their social capital though the society to whom they migrate as well as what extent migrant take his own social capital to society to whom they migrate. In this study which is based on Bourdieu's thought about social capital, claims that the biggest problem which Syrian Women will have to struggle against is material and moral interest of which they deprive because of inequality and discrimination to which they are exposed even if they are in equal education level or social and economic situation with Turkish women.
