Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to analyse Türkiye competitiveness in the European Union fresh tomato market. This study, adopts a comprehensive perspective to examine Türkiye's tomato production capacity, export structure, trade relations with the EU. Competitiveness is assessed through multidimensional variables such as price, quality, productivity, logistics infrastructure and compliance with EU standarts. The analysis utilizes the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index along with sectoral reports and trade statistics. Findings reveal that altough Türkiye holds a strong position in fresh tomato production, it fails to maintain a stable competitive advantage in the EU market, particularly against competitors such as Morocco and Spain.Key limitations in export performance include lack of quality standardization, logistics challanges, and difficulties in complying with the EU,s food safety regulations. Consequently, in order to achieve a sustainable competitive edge in fresh tomato exports, Türkiye must implement a quality-oriented transformation across the production-to-export chain, strengthen its logistics networks, and develop trade strategies aligned with EU market dynamics. The thesis concludes that if Türkiye's current production potential is supported by target market-oriented policies, it competitiveness in the EU market can be significantly enhanced.
