Determination yield and yield components of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) genotypes collected from different regions of Turkey

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in the experiment fields of Dicle University Agricultural Faculty Field Crops Department in 2016 growing season in order to determine the yield and yield components of sesame genotypes collected from different regions of Turkey. A total of 24 sesame genotypes and varieties (21 genotypes and 3 standard varieties) collected from different regions of Turkey were planted on 20 May 2016. In field experiment implemented through Randomized Block Experimental Design with three replication, the plot size was 1.4 x 5 m = 7.0 m2 (70 cm between rows and 10 cm in the row) and each material was formed in 2 rows. The 35 characteristic of sesame genotypes were evaluated by using descriptors developed by IPGRI (International Plant Genetic Resources Institute), and the obtained data were subjected to analysis of variance by using the JMP Statistical Package Program and the mean values were grouped according to the multiple comparison method. By comparing the yield and yield characteristics of the genotypes according to the obtained data, genotypes with high yield were determined. In the result of this study, it was aimed to create an infrastructure for future use in breeding studies by determining the genetic diversity based on the agricultural and morphological characteristics of the local sesame genotypes collected from different regions of Turkey and by identifying the genetic similarities between the genotypes. The high-yielding genotypes obtained in the result of this study will be made available to the breeders who are engaged in selection studies.
