Abstract (EN)

This thesis examines the effects of past financial crises on the Turkish economy. The study focuses particularly on growth, inflation, unemployment, and foreign trade indicators, analyzing how these variables changed during crisis periods. Using the crises of 1994, 2001, 2008, and 2018 as case studies, both theoretical insights and econometric analyses based on annual data were employed. The findings reveal that crises left more pronounced impacts on inflation and foreign trade, while the changes in growth and unemployment varied depending on the duration and nature of each crisis. These results indicate that the Turkish economy is highly vulnerable to crises and highlight the need for precautionary measures against potential future shocks. The aim of this study is not only to provide an academic assessment but also to offer policy recommendations. Therefore, crisis periods have been examined in detail, and the findings were supported with empirical methods to contribute to further research and present a new perspective.
