Abstract (EN)

This research was made in order to examine the differences in the difficulties in emotional regulation and self-compassion when the levels of individuals showing narcissistic personality characteristics increase, and to determine the direction in which this difference will be found. For this aim, on the basis of volunteerism, 1 demographic information form and 3 different scales were applied to 49 university students and 183 university graduates; such as: Narcissistic personality inventory (NPI), emotional regulation strength scale and self-compassion scale. In order to find answers to the questions after the applying the scales; frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation values are examined. In addition to this, factor analysis, one-way analysis of variance, reliability analyzes of the scales, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test and correlation analysis were done. In order to get better results, the scores which were gotten from the scales were divided into three groups (narcissism, self-compassion and emotional regulation), low-middle-high, and analyzed based on these groups in order to have more healthy results. As a result of the analyzes' results, statistically a meaningful difference was found between group scores of difficulty in emotional regulation and self-compassion and scale scores of narcissism variables. According to this, when difficulty in emotional regulation increases self compation decreases and narcissism increases. Statistically significant difference between narcissism groups scores and difficulty in emotional regulation. But difference couldn't be found between narcissism groups and self-compassion statistically. In other words, when narcissism increases, difficulty in emotional regulation also increases, but there is no difference in self-compassion scores. According to this, when self-compassion increases, difficulty in emotional regulation, and narcissism decreases. On the other hand, in the demographic information, the difference couldn't be found in the duration of the last relationships, the satisfaction level of the relationships and the number of partner's and difficulty in emotional regulation self-compassion, narcissism scores.
