Privatization practices in turkey and the effects of privatization in sugar factories on employment and production

Abstract (EN)

Privatization practices in the world have started to be seen especially since the 1970's. The privatizations, which were done in the UK and the United States, were later implemented in Eastern European countries and developing countries. The privatization practices applied since 1980 in Turkey has led to many changes in social, political and economic sense. These changes in the social, political and economic meaning have been drawn to different interpretations and different meanings, causing confusion. The biggest confusion has been and continues to be experienced in SOE's. As SOE's cause increasing economic, social and political problems in the national economy SOE's negative effects not only SOEs in national but also Turkey's economy Turkey's economy has become increasingly worse since there is no consensus of opinion on the privatization in Turkey. Presence of privatization that impartial, scientific and appropriate to Turkey's economy a very important phenomenon for Turkey's economy. Is privatization policy has provided a real sense of productivity growth in Turkey's economy and privatizated SOE's? Although this question has not find answer when 1980s that since start of the privatization process in Turkey studies on this subject are contining. The main purpose of this thesis is to determine how privatization in Amasya, Kayseri, Konya, Kütahya, Adapazarı, Erzurum and Erzincan Sugar Factories, which were privatized on different dates, leads to a change in the number of people employed for these factories and the amount of sugar produced. As mentioned in the conclusion section, privatization practices did not have a positive effect on employment and production in these seven sugar factories, which were privatized despite some exceptions.
