Abstract (EN)

In this study, interrogatives have been investigated in Turkish. Hangi, kaç, kaçıncı, kim, nasıl, ne, neden, nere, nerede, nereden, nereye, nice, niçin, niye are used in Turkish as interrogatives. Provisions of interrogatives have been selected among 27 works of different authors and evaluated by grammatical and semantic dimension. This study contains five parts. First part contains Introduction. Interrogatives have been evaluated by word class in second part, by syntax in third part, by semantics in fourth part. Last part of the study is Conclusion. In the first part, this study has been descriped by exhibiting subject, content, method and aims. Also concept of question has been evaluated. Placement of question in functional classification of sentence and characteristics to differantiate question from statement have been emphasized. After the approaches to the types of questions have been arranged, types of questions have been examined in Turkish. Also meanings of interrogatives and changes of those meanings, including their examples, from the beginning till today have been examined in this part.In the second part, interrogatives have been evaluated by word class. Interrogatives have been classified by usage as pronoun, adjective and adverb. In the third part of study contains interrogatives by syntax. Interrogatives have been examined in two basic groups; finite clause and non-finite clause. Non-finite clause which includes interrogative has been examined in two ways as well by how it related with predicate and non-finite clause. In the fourth part of the study, semantic characteristics have been evaluated. First, sentences which include interrogatives have been questioned their relations by context, by non-linguistic elements and meanings, then follows by semantic functions of interrogatives. Sentences with interrogatives are divided in two main groups as direct or indirect questions in this part. Sentences have been evaluated in two groups as literal or rhetoric, then it has been evaluated in four groups as affirmative and non-affirmative. Meanings of the sentences have been detected after this classification. Interrogatives have been seen in different usages without having question meanings. This part includes examples of interrogatives which do not have question meanings, interrogatives in conditional clauses, lexicalizations and idiomaticalizations of interrogatives. The fifth and the last part of the study, Conclusion, contains the quantitative results from all the classifications in all parts and exhibits the frequency of using the interrogatives.
