Performance analysis of the automotive sector in Türkiye and automotive companies trading on the Istanbul Stock Exchange

ABSTRACT PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF THE AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR IN Türkiye AND AUTOMOTIVE COMPANIES TRADING ON THE ISTANBUL STOCK EXCHANGE The automotive sector is considered the locomotive of the economy in all industrialized countries. The automotive industry consists of many sectors such as iron-steel, petro-chemistry, glass, plastic, software, textile and electronics; It is also directly and indirectly effective in the development of agriculture, tourism, defense, transportation, infrastructure and construction sectors. The progress made by the Turkish automotive industry has also enabled the emergence of a giant sub-industry. The automotive sub-industry in Turkey is developing rapidly as a result of the developments in the automotive industry. Global automotive industry; It is in a major transformation such as the advancement in technology, the change in customer relations, and the preference for hybrid and electric cars instead of fossil fuel cars. At a time when this transformation is taking place, important opportunities may arise for manufacturers who will enter the market later. TOGG, our first domestic car, is one of the best examples of this. The aim of the study is to analyze the macroeconomic factors affecting the automotive sector and the effects of these factors on the stock market performance of automotive sector companies operating in Turkey. After considering the developments in the automotive sector in the context of the world and Turkey, the place and importance of the sector in the Turkish economy is emphasized. In the analysis section of the study, the performance and relationship of the returns of six leading automotive sector companies traded on the Stock Exchange in Turkey in the period 2014-2024 against macroeconomic variables such as exchange rate, oil prices and CDS premium are analyzed. The results of the study generally revealed some data indicating that the companies in the automotive sector are in the leading role of the changes in economic indicators. In addition, the results showed that the improvements in economic indicators positively affect the price performance of the sector. Key Words: : Automotive Sector, Analysis method, CDS, Borsa Istanbul
