Abstract (EN)
Toilet training; It is the child's gaining urine and stool control while sleeping and awake, and at the same time learning to meet this need independently by realizing that the toilet is coming without any support and reminder. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of mothers' knowledge and attitude towards toilet training on toilet training of children. The study was conducted using a quantitative research approach with a descriptive survey design. The investigation involved 189 mothers with children aged between 2 and 5 years, who were attending the Sağlam Pediatric Clinics at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. The selection of mothers was accomplished through the utilization of a convenient sampling technique. Data were collected with the "Personal Information Form" and "Parent Information and Attitude Form" prepared by the researcher. In the study, when the income level of the family and the duration of toilet training were compared, a significant result was found between the decrease in the income level and the prolongation of the process. However, no statistically significant relationship emerged between the mother's educational level and the duration of toilet training completion. It was noted that mothers within the age range of 25 to 31 tended to complete toilet training within the initial weeks. When comparing the conducted research with the literature, it becomes evident that toilet training holds a significant place in a child's life. The knowledge and attitude of the mother influence this process. It has been identified that obtaining accurate information from reliable sources and receiving support from child development professionals are crucial for mothers before and during the toilet training period.
