Typological transformation in Turkish architecture during the process of pheriperilisation

In this study where the architectural transformation is explained by the change in social structure as a result of the development of the World System, the nineteenth Century Ottoman Architecture is taken up. When the nineteenth century Ottoman Architecture is compared to the Architecture of the industrialized West European Countries display important differences and similarities are observed. The mechanisms which caused to dissolution of the Traditional Ottoman Architecture came into the agenda after the intensive commercial relations with Europe started. Because of this reason this study dwells on the cause and effect relations of social and economic factors effective on transformation of Ottoman Architecture. In summary, this study aims to determine, the social and economic reasons that were effective on the transformation of Turkish Architecture during the nineteeth century which had followed a parallel but different trend of development. An explanatory model: "World System" which covers all the dimensions of the built environment is applied. Izmir as a commercial city shows all the effects of peripherilization: for this reason the Built Environment of İzmir is taken as a case study.
