Abstract (EN)
In this study, the news discourses of the International Media Agencies regarding the Peace Spring Operation were examined from an ideological perspective. In the study, it was investigated how the national news agencies, which are the representatives of the actor states, of the Peace Spring Operation, which Turkey started for the safe corridor in the Syrian region on 09 October 2019, handled the process. In this context, national news agencies financially supported by Syria, the United States of America and Russia, which are actors in the region, were selected. The news about Operation Peace Spring by Syrian Arab News Agency financially supported by Syria, Voice of America financially supported by the United States of America and Sputnik News financially supported by Russia were examined between 01 October 2019 – 31 December 2019.The reaction and sanctions caused by the Peace Spring Operation were included in the content of the study and the process was examined around the military, political and economic axis. In this study, it was investigated how the national news agencies of the actor states handled the Peace Spring Operation and what kind of discourse was used in the news. The discourse and expressions of news agencies were examined in detail with the critical discourse analysis study developed by Van Dijk. As a result of the analysis, it has been determined that the actor states in the region use national news agencies and ideological discourses that protect the interests of the country. In this context, it has been concluded that national news agencies belonging to actor countries in the Syrian region prepare the news with their own facts and ideology. The public is confronted with carefully selected text contents that are reconstructed and in which ideology is coded.
