Unmanned aerial vehicles began to play an increasingly important role in modern wars. In the twenty-first century, the usage of unmanned aerial vehicles in armed conflict is one of the most controversial issues that international human rights law and armed conflict law. One possible reason is that, in addition to technological advances, competitive weapons can be shown as an effort of the western world to search for strategically important weapons at the strategic level without any risk to the human life. The main objective of the study is to determine whether armed unmanned aerial vehicles will be considered as new weapons or new combat tactics, how to legitimize the use of such weapons based on article 36 of Protocol I of the Geneva Convention and the principles of international law. In order to find answers to these questions, the study considers the terms and principles of international law and then the legitimacy of the use of the armed unmanned aerial vehicles in armed conflicts.
