Abstract (EN)

This study aims to investigate the student experiences of international students comes from the Middle East-Islamic to Turkey. In this context, the main focus of the study is the difficulties they face during the student process, the adequacy of the services provided, how they socialize, and how they relate to the faculty, local students and the school administration. In the relational context, what kind of difficulties and problems these experiences contain, what kind of approaches and thoughts take place on the basis of their negative attitudes and behaviors, what kind of attitude they develop against these behaviors, and the effects of the social problems they experience to the students' processes are examined. The main point of this study is how the difficulties and negative behaviors of international students affect student processes, what kind of behavioral practices emerge in this context and the dynamics underlying these approaches. The study is based on the experiences of international students in the process of students and because of the appropriateness of the subject scope, a widely used qualitative research method has been adopted. Interviews were held with 13 international students from the Middle East-Islam and studying bachelor degree at the university. According to the findings, there are situations where international students from the Middle East-Islamic geography face exclusion and xenophobia. These exclusions seem to have influenced their social relationships and academic achievement. Symbolic violence was used as an exclusion method and it was observed that international students tended to normalize and ignore their exclusions. It is seen that there are situations where local students and faculty members are perceived as uncultured due to the orientalist point of view and they face exclusions in this context. Furthermore, socialization situations had an impact on student experiences and this had a significant effect on language learning. In addition, students were quite satisfied with the education they received. Keywords: Orientalism, Symbolic Violence, Xenophobia
