The relationship between family belonging and nomophobia in university students: The example of Fırat and Medipol Universities

The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between family belonging and nomophobia in university students. The sample of the research consists of a total of 416 people, 144 men and 272 women, who studied undergraduate education in different departments of Elazig Fırat and Istanbul Medipol universities in the 2021-2022 academic year. In data collection, "Personal Information Form" was used to access the demographic information of the participants, "Family Belonging Scale" to measure the level of belonging, and "Nomophobia Scale" to determine the nomophobia levels. The data obtained in the research were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 package program. Correlation and regression analyzes were applied to the obtained data. At the same time, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t test for independent groups were used to look at the relationship between dependent and independent variables. In the study, multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the predictive level of the Nomophobia Scale score on the Family Belonging Scale scores. According to the results obtained, a moderate and significant relationship was found between the Nomophobia Scale and the Family Belonging Scale scores. There was no significant relationship between Family Belonging and gender, university type, number of siblings and mother's educational status. A significant relationship was found between father's education level, daily phone usage time and family belonging. There was a significant relationship between the duration of phone use and nomophobia. Discussions were made with the results obtained, and at the same time, suggestions were made for the studies to be done.
