Fear of deprivation of smartphones in university students

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between fear of being deprived of smartphones (nomophobia) and social phobia and life satisfaction in university students. For this purpose, the relationship between the demographic variables of the study and the research variables was revealed. Method: The research was carried out with the relational survey model, which is included in the quantitative research method. The data of the research consists of 251 students studying at Istanbul Gelişim University in the 2021-2022 academic year. The 'Nomophobia Scale (NMP-Q), the 'Liebowitz Social Anxiety Inventory (LSQ)' and 'Satisfaction with Life Scale' were used to collect the study data.'Personal Information Form' was used to collect demographic information. SPSS-22, a statistical program for social sciences, was used in the interpretation and analysis of the obtained data. Results: According to the findings obtained in the research; While there was a linearly significant relationship between fear of being deprived of a smartphone (nomophobia) and social phobia, social fear and social avoidance in university students, a negative significant relationship was found between life satisfaction and life satisfaction. At the same time, a negative significant relationship was found between social phobia, social fear and social avoidance and life satisfaction. Conclusion: As the fear of being deprived of a smartphone (nomophobia) increases in university students, the levels of social phobia, social fear and social avoidance increase, while the level of life satisfaction decreases. Similarly, the increase in social phobia, social fear and social avoidance levels decreases life satisfaction. Keywords: Nomophobia, Social Phobia, Life Satisfaction
