The relationship between risky behaviours, impulsivity and metacognitive beliefs

This paper aims to analyze the relationship between risky behaviours, impulsivity and metacognitive beliefs and the impact of the sociodemographic variables to risky behaviours. With this aim; "sociodemographic form" which was generated by the researcher, "Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11" (BIS-11) to measure the impulsivity and the "Metacognitions Questionnaire-30" (MCQ-30) to measure the metacognitive beliefs was apllied to 361 attendees who were university students in Istanbul. First of all, correlation analysis was used to answer the research questions. In accordance with the findings, a positive relationship was determined between all subdivisions of the BIS-11 and the sub total of the impulsivity and subdivision scale points. Also a positive relationship was determined with one of the risky behaviours scale's subdivison suicidality between positive beliefs, uncontrollability and danger, cognitive trust, the need of controlling the beliefs subdivisions and the total of metacognitive scale; the relationship between school quitting scale and the uncontrolability and danger, cognitive trust subdivisions and the total of metacognitive scale was founded to be positive. The hierarchic regression analysis was conducted with the variables which were founded to be associated with each other after the correlation analysis. The strengths, weaknesses and the findings of the research was discussed with the literature review. Key Words: Metacognitive beliefs, Risky Behaviours, Impulsiviness
