Abstract (EN)
In this study, the relationship between social media addiction and narcissism levels in university students was examined. The sample of the study consists of a total of 609 volunteer students, 209 male and 400 female, between the ages of 18-30, studying at any university in Istanbul. Personal Information Form was used in the study, the 'Social Media Addiction Scale-Adult Form' was used to determine the social media addiction levels of the participants, and the 'Narcissistic Personality Inventory-13' was used to determine the narcissism levels. The inventories used in the research were filled online with the Google Survey. SPSS 22.0 package program was used for data analysis. When the data were analyzed by normality analysis, it was concluded that they did not show a normal distribution. In order to analyze the data, Kruskal-Wallis Test, Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman Correlation test, which are descriptive analysis and non-parametric tests, were applied. According to the results obtained in the study, a low level of positive correlation was found between social media addiction and narcissism. The level of narcissism among university students differs according to gender and the number of followers/friends on social media platforms. No significant difference was found between the level of narcissism and age and educational status. A significant difference was found between social media addiction and age, social media usage purposes and time spent on social media during the day. Social media addiction does not differ according to gender. As a result, the development of technology and the frequency of social media use have enabled us to deal with social media addiction and narcissism together in today's society. It has been observed that individuals with a high level of narcissism are quite successful in using social media.
