The relationship of social media addiction of the university studentsand narcissism,

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship of social media addiction and narcissism in the university students. Totally 282 participants (179 female and 103 male) took part in the study. The research data was collected in the year 2020, via Internet on the on-line research platform using Snowball Sampling. To collect data, Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) and Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) were used in addition to Personal Information Form developed by the researchers. During the data analysis phase, the conformity of data with normal distribution was tested with the Single Sample Kolmogorov Smirnov test.Nonparametric tests were used in the advanced analysis because their significance value were less than 0,05. Among these nonparametric tests, Mann-Whitney U test was used for two independant variables, Kruskal-Wallis test was used for more than two independant variables and Spearman's correlation coefficients were used for relationship analysis. In the research, when the Narcissistic Personality Inventory scores were compared according to the social media addiction levels of the participants, the difference between subscale scores of Narcissistic Personality Inventory "Exhibitionism" and "Claiming Rights" were found significant. According to the evaluation results, the Narcissistic Personality Inventory "Exhibitionism" and "Claiming Rights" subscale scores of those participants whose social media addiction level was "very highly addicted" ,were found higher as compared to the participants having other social media addiction levels. As a result, it's determined that, there is a relationship between use of social media and narcissistic structuring level. Key words : University students, social media addiction, narcissism
