Comparison of levels pertain to self disclosure, subjective well-being and perceived social support of university students

Abstract (EN)

In this study levels of self disclosure, subjective well-being and perceived social support of university students have been researched according to their genders, age, number of siblings, mostly accomodated place, economic condition of their families, educational status of parents and parental attitudes. Population of the study includes final year students of Dokuz Eylül University. Sample of the study is comprised of 312 students in total, studying in Buca Faculty of Education, 199 (% 64) of whom are females and 113 ( % 36) of whom are males.In collecting data Self Disclosure Inventory , Subjective Well-Being Scale, Perceived Social Support Scale and Personal Information Form have been used. Data have been analysed through SPSS 17.0 and MINITAB 15 statistics programs and Mann ? Whitney U and Kruskal ? Wallis H techniques have been used to resolve the data. Hollender-Wolfe method for multiple comparisons and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation technique for correlation analysis have been used. All data have been tested on .05 significance level.As a result of the research it has been found out that self disclosure points of attenders differentiate into genders, where subjective well-being and perceived social support points don?t differentiate. No significant difference has been found inself disclosure, subjective well-being and perceived social support points acoording to age, numbers of siblings and mostly accomodated place. No significant difference has also been seen in subjective well-being and perceived social support points acoording to economical condition of family where there has been a great deal of distinctness in self disclosure points of self disclosure to father. As the income looks up, points of self disclosure to father also rises. Significant differences have been seen in self disclosure points of students according to educational status of parents, but no significant differences have been seen on the level of subjective well-being according to educational status of parents. It has been found out that perceived social support becomes different in accordance with educational status of mothers of students, but educational status of fathers shows no substantive difference. As for parental attitudes, significant differences have been seen in self disclosure, subjective well-being and perceived social support points of students. Positively high level of relationship between percieved social support points and self disclosure points together with subjective well-being points and positively medium level of relationship between subjective well-being points and self disclosure points have been identified.Key words: Self Disclosure, Subjective Well-Being, Perceived Social Support.
