The future anxiety of the private course students preparing for the university exam

Education provides support not only to the mental structure of the students but also to their mental state, psychomotor behavior, and social development. In our study, it was aimed to determine the future anxiety of the students of private teaching institutions preparing for the university exam in Elazig. In order to carry out the research, necessary permissions were obtained from the Social and Human Sciences Research Ethics Committee of Fırat University and from the Classroom Administration through Fırat University. The population of the research consists of 550 graduates and high school senior students in 8 private teaching institutions in Elazig. Our sample was carried out by reaching 250 students by random sampling method. In this study; Geylani and Yıldız's (2022) "Future Anxiety Scale for University Students" was applied in order to determine the future anxiety of the students preparing for the university exam. This scale has two factors. The first factor expresses 'Fear of the Future' and the second factor (includes items 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12) expresses 'Hopelessness from the Future'. The whole scale of the 19-item measurement tool is Cronbach's α=0.91, Factor 1 Cronbach's α=0.95, Factor 2 Cronbach's α=0.88. Evaluation of the scale; The scale is designed in a 5-point Likert type as 'Never', 'Rarely', 'Sometimes', 'Often', 'Always' and has no cutoff value. As the score obtained from the scale increases, future anxiety increases, and as the score decreases, future anxiety decreases. SPSS 22 program was used in the analysis of the data. The significance levels of statistical analyzes in the study were determined according to p<0.05. In addition, frequency distribution (f), arithmetic mean (Χ), standard deviation (SD) and percent (%) values were used. According to the research findings, in the sub-dimension of the survey, it was determined that the mean scores of those living in the city centers differed significantly from those living in villages/towns or districts (p<0.05). In addition, it was determined that those with a monthly income of 10001-15000 TL differed significantly from those with a lower monthly income level (p<0.05). In line with the results, we believe that it will make an important contribution to the literature if the future anxiety and effects of the senior and graduate students who go to the private teaching institution and prepare for the university exam are evaluated in terms of education policies. In our country, there are very few studies examining the level of future anxiety in private teaching institutions and the results of the studies vary. A large sample group is required for wide-ranging studies and improvements to be made in the future.
