Abstract (EN)

In this study, which was carried out in order to draw attention to values education in social studies lesson in distance education, to evaluate the place and importance of values education in distance education with the views of teachers and students, and to develop concrete solutions in order to eliminate the deficiencies, if any; values education were discussed with different dimensions. In this study, in which convergent parallel design, which is one of the mixed research methods, was used; quantitative data were collected from students by questionnaire and qualitative data were collected from teachers by semi-structured interview forms. Then, the data were analysed, compared with each other, interpreted and related within themselves. 471 secondary school students and 28 social studies teachers participated in this study, in which the convenient sampling method sampling method was used. Quantitative data were analysed with SPSS program through the tests Anova, Independent Sample T Test, Welch Test, Tukey HSD and Games – Howell tests, and qualitative data were analysed with R-based QDA program by descriptive analysis. According to the results obtained from the research, values education in face-to-face education is more effective and more sufficient than values education in distance education. The place and importance of distance social studies courses in values education is greater than other distance courses. Although values education in distance education is necessary, it is insufficient and ignored in current situation. Values education in face-to-face education is more enjoyable than in distance education. Distance education does not create any problems regarding students' private lives. While methods and techniques such as direct narration, video and visual use, storytelling and case studies are used in distance values education; some problems are experienced such as low participation in the lesson, communication problems, the anxiety of following the curriculum and motivation problems.
