Analysis and transcription of Bosna Ahkam Defter number 5 (H. 1196–1199/ M. 1782–1785),

There are different types of notebooks in which the summaries of the decisions taken are recorded in the Dîvân-ı Hümâyûn which is the highest judicial and decision organ of the Ottoman Empire. In the early days, the decisions regarding all internal and external issues of the empire and the edicts related to these issues were recorded in the books called Mühimme Defterleri. With the increasing complaints since 1649, "Şikayet Defterleri" started to be kept. From the middle of the XVIII. century (1742), complaints began to be recorded in the "Ahkâm Defterleri", which were created separately for each state. Şikayet Defterleri continued to be kept even though the Ahkâm Defterleri were created. The Ahkâm Defterleri are basically designed to resolve the complaints and problems of the people and to establish justice. It is important to evaluate and introduce these notebooks in terms of form and content which were organized on behalf of 16 states in the Ottoman bureaucracy, for contributing to both historicâl studies and academic studies on the region. In this study, the physical condition, language and diplomatic features, content and number of documents included in the Bosnian Ahkâm Defterleri numbered V were reviewed in detail. The data obtained during the study were tabulated when necessary and given in the text, thus it was aimed to make a statistical contribution to the study. As a result of this study, the content of the provisions in the book and the settlements mentioned in the book were determined and information about the geographical boundaries of the region was also obtained.
