Abstract (EN)
The aesthetically high-value historical papers written by the chroniclers (Vak῾anüvîs) taking into account the literary criteria are texts in which historical facts are fictionalized with the talent and imagination of the author within a grid of events. These works, which are known to have a unique style within the Ottoman prose tradition, provide data to the knowledge of history from many aspects, as well as, include treasures of knowledge that can illuminate or complete gaps in literary knowledge. Our aim in preparing this thesis is to reveal the literary value of historical texts written under the criteria that both the auxiliary relationship is preserved and that have arisen during their time, written by printers whose capabilities were accepted during their time in the profession of the chronicler, which reinforced and institutionalized the existence of the state by recording history for two hundred years and provided data to many disciplines. The main goal of our study was to classify and examine the language, narrative, and stylistic characteristics of the historical texts of chroniclers, as well as the literary material contained in these historical texts, and to make a number of evaluations about whether these works can be considered as a literary text based on the obtained results. This work aims to examine the unique characteristics of the chronicler tradition, which lasted from the 18th to the 19th century, and to reveal the style of a special literary concerning the historical texts of the chroniclers. Thus, it will be possible to come to an opinion on the importance of the historical texts of chroniclers in the history of literature and an opinion on the literary value it holds. The works of Na῾îmâ and Mehmed Hâkim from the chroniclers of the 18th century and Mütercim Asım from the 19th century and Sahhâflar Şeyhizâde Mehmed Es ̔ad constitute the scope of our thesis. Our thesis consists of an introduction, two main sections, and the conclusion section. After giving information about the importance of the prose in the history of Turkish literature and the status of the chroniclers' historical texts in the Ottoman prose, brief explanations were made in the introduction section about the term chroniclers. We prepared the first section of our work, which we identified as "Examination of Historical Texts of Chroniclers in Terms of Language, Narration, and Style", in eight subheadings, depending on the elements that determine the wording in a work. In the second section titled "Biography Writing in The Historical Texts of Chroniclers", we examined the biographical material contained in the works through the tables we created.
