Abstract (EN)
This research was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the knowledge levels of nurses working in burn units through a case scenario. The research was conducted between 05 February and 05 April 2024, with 234 nurses working in 48 different burn units/centers/units across Türkiye. Data were collected with a form that included questions about the nurses' descriptive characteristics and case types (flame, scald, electrical, chemical and inhalation). The data were evaluated using the SPSS 26 program using mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, median, frequency and percentage. Statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05. The median overall success knowledge score of the nurses participating in the study regarding burn case types, diagnosis, treatment and care was 32.83 (±23.03) out of 100 points, overall diagnostic success median is 60 points out of 100 for nurses with the highest postgraduate education (p<0.01), The median overall success of treatment was 65 points out of 100 for nurses with the highest postgraduate education (p<0.01), The median overall success in care is 60 points out of 100 for nurses with the highest postgraduate education, It was determined that the level of vocational school education and knowledge score were directly related (p <0.01). In the study, it was determined that the total knowledge achievement scores of nurses who received burn training 11 years ago or more were higher than nurses who received burn training 1-6 months ago (p = 0.05). As a result, it was determined that the level of knowledge of nurses working in burn units regarding burn cases was less than half. It is recommended that nurses working in a specific field such as burns keep their knowledge about burns up to date, and that they participate in activities aimed at improving themselves and that institutions repeat in-service training on burns.
