Abstract (EN)

Determination of Nurses' Knowledge Levels Regarding Warfarin Use This research was conducted as a descriptive study in order to determine the knowledge level of nurses about the use of warfarin. The research, was carried out with 142 nurses working at Hacettepe University Adult Hospital between 17 March-20 November 2021. The data were collected with the data collection form developed by the researcher, which includes the sociodemographic characteristics of the nurses and questions about the use of warfarin. The data were evaluated using the mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, frequency and percentage in the SPSS 26 program. The mean total success score for determining the knowledge level of the nurses participating in the study about warfarin use was 26.79 (±6.83) out of 65 points, the mean warfarin use score was 8.65 (±2.97) out of 15, the mean warfarin-drug interaction score was 8.56 (±3.59) out of 25, the mean warfarin-food interaction score was 9.58 (±3.68) out of 25. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found in the total success scores of warfarin evaluation (use, drug and food interaction) in terms of total working time (F=3.38, p=0.037). According to this result; It was observed that the mean score of the nurses with a tenure of 2-10 years and more than 11 years was 27.44 (±7.05)/27.36±6.58 and the mean score of the nurses who worked for 0-1 year was 23.36 (±5.51) (p<0.05).The achievement scores of the nurses who received warfarin use training within the scope of the study were found to be higher than the nurses who did not receive training (U=1768.0, p=0.002). Similarly, it was determined that the achievement scores of the nurses working in the unit where warfarin training was given at discharge were higher than the nurses working in the unit that did not receive training (U=1949.50, p=0.022). As a result, it was determined that the knowledge level of nurses about warfarin use was less than half. For this reason, it is suggested that warfarin should be included in in-service trainings to ensure patient safety and increase the knowledge level of nurses. Keywords: Knowledge, nurse, warfarin
