Vesîle-nâme (Language examination-text-index)

"Vesįle-nâme" written by Seyhoglu Dervish Osman is registered in Koç University Library Manuscript no: MS 135/79, BP 189.V47. The only identifiable copy of this work, which was donated by Josephine Powell, is in the Nesteren and Fuat Bayramoglu Rare Works Room of the aforementioned library. Vesįle-nâme, written by Seyhoglu Dervish Osman, a member of the Halveti order, is a religious and didactic work. In this work, which is mentioned about the etiquette of the sect, religious information is included by enriching it with folk tales. This information is supported by hadiths and verses. The language of the work, besides being plain, is important in that it reflects the spoken language of the 18th century Ottoman Turkish. It is aimed to bring the work to the cultural treasure both in terms of language and the subject it deals with. The study on this work called Vesįle-nâme consists of five chapters, excluding the intodiction and conclusion. In the introduction section; Seyhoglu Dervish Osman's life, his work, the subject and purpose of the study, the title and content of the work of Vesįlenâme, the place and importance; in addition, information about the method used in the work is given. In order to contribute to a better understanding of Turkish, especially spoken language, which was used in the 18th century, language analysis was carried out. In addition to the spelling of the work, its phonetic and structural features were also examined. First of all, in the spelling section, the spelling of the vowels and consonants in the works is given in bold and thin order; then, vowel-consonant harmonies and phonetic events are shown in the phonetic section. In the third chapter, under the title of morphology, affixes, inflections, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs are explained with examples. In the fourth chapter, the text, the translated text of Vesįle-nāme is given. In the fifth section, the index section, the words in the text were indexed in alphabetical order by using the "TürkSözDiz" index has been prepared in order to reveal the vocabulary of the work and to contribute to the vocabulary of 18th century Turkish. The words and phrases in the index are number with the page and line numbers in the text and their meanings are given by adhering to the text; after the directory section, the directory of people's names was also created. After the conclusion part of the work, the sources referenced in the study are also included.
