Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to dermine the phytochemical content and antioxidant activities of the endemic plant Vinca soneri. The methanol extract of the plant was subjected to separation and purification by different chromatographic techniques (Sephadex LH-20, Flash chromatography, and p-HPLC). Three flavone derivatives in the plant; rutin-7-O-glucoside, rutin-7-O-rhamnoside, kaemferol-3-O-rutinoside-7-O-rhamnoside, a benzoic acid derivative, 2-hydroxy-3-O-glucosyl-benzoic acid, and an iridoid glycoside, loganic acid, has been isolated. The antioxidant capacity of isolated molecules was evaluated by DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP methods. Rutin-7-O-glucoside and rutin-7-O-rhamnoside were found to be more active than Trolox in DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, while kaemferol-3-O-rutinoside-7-O-rhamnoside, 2-hydroxy-3-O-glucosyl-benzoic acid showed lower activity compared to Trolox. Loganic acid was not found to be active in all tests. All components except loganic acid have been reported for the first time in Vinca soneri plant. The findings make an important contribution to the literature about the chemical content of the plant sample.
