Abstract (EN)
Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes a lack of insulin in the blood. Some medicinal plants have been reported to serve as a treatment for this chronic disease. Cleome droserifolia has a long history of treating diabetes in Egypt and some Arab countries. The aim is find out the plant extract from reducing the toxic effect and some biochemical variables in diabetic patients. This investigation was carried out on a total of twenty-four albino rats that ranged in weight from 170 to 200 g on average. The animals were separated into four groups (six/cage), the untreated control group, the healthy group treated with extract, the group is diabetes mellitus by alloxan, and the diabetic group treated with extract. It was given by gastric tube (10 mg/kg.bw) for 28 days. The results showed a significant decrease in serum c-peptide, vitamin D, total proteins, albumin, globulin and (HDL). This is associated with significantly higher levels in blood glucose, HbA1c, urea, creatinine, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), (LDL), (VLDL), diabetic rats had higher total and direct bilirubin levels than control rats. The daily injection of plant extracts to diabetic rats improved most of these measures significantly. Cleome droserifolia acts as a diabetes therapy by lowering oxidative stress and pancreatic cell damage, which may contribute to its anti-diabetic characteristics.
