A research on using violoncello as a means of transcription in interdisciplinary performing arts

Accompanying us in the vast majority of our lives, shaping and sometimes dominating our thoughts without us noticing it, music is one of the important branches of artistic disciplines. From past to present, it is possible to see the variations of shape in people's senses of art. Sometimes the interdisciplinary approach came into prominence, where a single discipline failed at expression or when new possibilities of expression were sought after. The cooperative convenience of the performing arts makes it possible for the interdisciplinary interaction to come to fruition. Such an interaction brings about not only a transformation, but also a progression in artistic disciplines. The researcher who seeks for the possibilities of using music in performances has failed at getting access to the interdisciplinary studies where music shall be one of the basic components, and has thus set out for creating her own findings. Such an intention has been materialized in the interdisciplinary performance bearing the title "dumrul", which has been created in cooperation with an actor/dancer. Applicable for interdisciplinary studies, "Wild Dumrul, Son of Dukha Koja" from the Book of Dede Korkut has been selected as the base text, to which the title of the performance refers. In the performance of "dumrul" – where the usage of music, violoncello and the musician herself are set to be benefited from as being equal components as the other ones – dance and theatre are the other equal components. Having quite a large repertoire, violoncello repertoire is constantly enriched thanks to the transcriptions of works intended for other instruments. For the performance of "dumrul", the researcher has transcribed the following works: The 1st movement of Symphony No. 5 and the 3rd movement of Symphony No. 1 by Mahler. Another work that has been profited from so as to corroborate the interdisciplinary expressivity and the purview of the performance is the motion picture bearing the title The Seventh Seal by Ingmar Bergman, thanks to which the aforementioned purview has been solidified by means of stage props referring to Bergman's work.
