Özet (EN)

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) defines a number of standards, bothfor data models and for online services, that has been widely adopted in theGeographical Information System (GIS) community. Web service oriented WMS hasa different request/response paradigm from non-web service versions, we haveextended cascading WMS by adding request handler functionality. In this thesis, wewill describe our group's efforts to implement GIS services according to OGCstandard specifications in accordance with the web services approach. In this thesiswork we have also realized extra information and capabilities about GIS services andweb services. And also in this thesis we can say that there are a lot of benefits aboutrelationship in between GIS and web services. To be able to benefit from the webservices in the GIS applications, all the service providers should provide theirservices as Web Services. The goal of this thesis work, to integrate web services approach and GISproperties in to application development, and the applications related are pure opensource tools and software. During the investigations OGC compliant UMNMapServer GIS publisher tool had used for GIS part of the implementation. Ourimplementation status have used OGC compliant web services which is based webmapping services and generate it?s WSDL document with UMN MapServer as aniiiopen source GIS tool. This work focuses on the web map service (WMS). UMNMapServer supports OGC compliant web services but without generated WSDLdocuments. In this work we have also control this tool of lack in our implementationstatus. We find that the OGC standards are very compatible with web servicesstandards.Key Words: OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium), Web Service, GIS (GeographicInformation System), WMS (Web Map Service), WFS (Web Feature Service), XML(Extensible Mark-up Language), OWS (Open Geospatial Web Service), Map Serveriv
