Abstract (EN)

This study conducts an analysis of the hate speech towards Syrian immigrants in X by employing Teun van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method. First, the study explores the concept of discourse, which reveals power relations based on hegemony. Then, the representation of groups that a the bottom of the hierarchy in terms of social power relations is discussed within the context of the new media. The study explores how the unique features of the new media and the principles of algorithms have influenced the perception of Syrian immigrants on social media platforms. The dissemination of hate speech on new media/social media platforms, targeting of different groups, is analyzed, and the hate-filled content directed at Syrian immigrants in X is examined through selected examples. In line with the analyses that have been made, it has been observed that the hate speech produced by the social media users are quite parallel to the current existing dominant discourses of the period, and the arguments of these discourses are similar to the categories determined by Van Dijk.
