Social and economical situation of Haymanateyn town of Ankara State in the middles of 19th century

Besides various adjustments in many areas in 19th century Ottoman Empire, several reforms were made in the financial area as well. After the declaration of Administrative Reforms of 1839, the most important reforms were made in the tax system. One of these reforms were the equities books, which constitutes the core of this study.when we study the contents of the equities books, we will see that they involve important information on the social and economical structure of the allocation unit they belong to.Thirty one equities books that belong to Haymanateyn (Haymana), contain information on the demographical, social and economical structure of the region.This study that is titled "Social and Economical Situation of Haymanateyn County of the Province of Ankara in 19th Century (According to Equities Books/ 1844-1845)" consists of four chapters.In the first chapter, a short information on equities books are given and Haymana equities books are discussed. Then the history of Haymana is viewed in general terms.In the second chapter, the names of householders, their titles and names, populations and job families are studied through charts and tables.In the third chapter, the economical structure of Haymana is examined, sources and distribution of income are studied. The agricultural structure and livestock production in the region is also studied in this part.The fourth chapter is handled in two parts. In the first part, the taxes which are collected from the subjects of the Ottoman Empire are discussed and the reflection of 19th reform movements in the Empire on the financial structure is studied.In the second part, equities books of Haymana are studied and taxes collected from Haymana are analyzed in the light of the information from these books.Aforementioned parts of this study have been classified and examined based on the information from the equities books and this information is translated into tables and graphics.Key Words: Ankara, Haymana, agriculture, stock raising, weaving, making and selling of yarn, temettuat
