Current use of XVI. century Ottoman palace fabrics

Fertile lands of Anatolia were the cradle of many civilization. By the exploring the fabrics and weaving equipment's dating back to 6000 BC we got information about those civilizations' daily life culture, protection perceptions and types of their wearing. The Seljuk State's founding, brought their own tissue culture with them and developed in this geography. After the establishment of the Ottoman Empire, tissue art developed further. Ottoman Empire. Conquering of Istanbul started a new era. The Sultans of Ottoman Empire gave great importance to art and artists, including art of weaving and as a result, Ottoman Sultans ordered Nakkashane (weaving Atelier) in the Palace. Infinite patterns, motifs and the great quality of the fabrics attracted great attention and Ottoman Palace Weavings become an important export material, mostly to European Kingdoms. In XVI. Century, Ottoman Empire peaked in many fields and the reflection of their success showed itself by diversification and flourishing in art. In this thesis the names of fabrics and their designs from XVI. to XIX. century, the period starting with the peak of Ottoman Empire till Industrial Evolution and the declining of Ottoman Empire, that had placed in academic researches has been examined and informed about how they survive till today. It is aimed to create an awareness about Turkish Art of Weaving, add some more information to academic researches and shed light on the continuity of this art.
