Salname is a word came into Turkish language after Tanzimat reform and its meaning is annual. Salname is a general term for the publications summarizing all events, every kind of accomplishments, information about statistics, trade, agriculture, industry, history, science, and biography in a specific year or years. They are prepared every year and published yearly. There are different types of salnames. One of them is the state salnames. The state salnames are the Ottoman Empire annuals which were published in the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. Having big importance for the local history, these annuals consist of detailed information regarding socio-economic structure and institutional structure of a state and its districts and subdistricts. The first issue of the Konya state salnames was in 1285 in Muslim calendar and in 1868 in Gregorian calendar. They were last issued in 1330 in Muslim calendar and in 1924 in Gregorian calendar. The salnames belonging to Karaman district of the state of Konya were also written and published within these years. The state of Konya was consisting of the cities and districts such as Konya, Akşehir, Karaman, Ilgın, Seydişehir, Ereğli, Bozkır, Hadim, and Yalvaç. As mentioned above, one of the districts of the state of Konya was Karaman. The salnames for Karaman between the years of 1869 and 1900 were consisted of information about administrative structure of the district, district governors, district judicial councils, muftis, administrative boards, lower courts, treasurers, members of the councils, underclerks, socio-economic structure, population in years and its dispersion within the district, education, institutions in the district such as postal service and their personnel with their ranks, and development and construction of public facilities in Karaman district and its subdistricts.
